Practical Leadership Training for New and Emerging Managers

Hi, I’m Sharon McKeen — creator of McKeen Manager Modules.

I support new and emerging managers who are stepping into leadership and quickly realizing that knowing the work and leading people are two very different things.

Many are capable, committed, and want to do right by their team—but they’re managing competing priorities, navigating personalities, and making decisions without a clear roadmap.

I know that reality because I’ve lived it.

Over a 30+ year career in the Federal Public Service of Canada, I led teams through real operational pressures, shifting priorities, and the day-to-day responsibility of supporting people while delivering results. I’ve managed performance, developed employees, and made the kinds of decisions new managers are now facing for the first time.

Without the right foundation, it’s easy to fall into constant reaction mode.
With the right structure, everything changes.

That’s why I created McKeen Manager Modules—to give new managers practical tools they can use immediately, not just concepts to think about.

If you’re in that transition and want to talk through where you are and what support would help, you’re welcome to book a conversation.

Why I Created This Course

These modules weren’t born in a boardroom — they were inspired by a life-changing moment during a solo hike near Mirror Lake in Lake Louise, Alberta during a 2022 wellness retreat.

After suddenly leaving my role due to a serious cardiovascular condition, I realized that my leadership journey wasn’t over — it was evolving. Encouraged by doctors to retire, I stepped away from management… but not from my mission.

That experience reshaped how I see leadership and it’s why my approach focuses on clarity, self-awareness and practical decision-making not just theory.

Today, I serve as an advocate for Women’s Heart Health and I continue to empower others through meaningful leadership development.

Leadership That Feels Human

This course was created to help managers:

  • Navigate difficult conversations without avoiding them

  • Make decisions without second-guessing yourself

  • Know exactly what to do in your first 30-90 days as a manager

I loved being a manager — but I also know how hard it can be. That’s why this isn’t just theory. It’s a collection of practical tools, real insight and experience you can apply immediately.
